We're green at heart!
We’ve got heart at Heartland. This year, in addition to a superb line-up of classes, practicas, shows and milongas we’re also making it our goal to be as environmentally friendly as we possibly can!
What does green mean?
Well for a start we’re reducing what we use, reusing whatever we can, and recycling (or composting) the rest! We’re looking at every aspect to make sure we achieve our goal and hope you will join us. Here are some things we’re doing:
- Using email and social media to encourage interest, advertise and disseminate information
- Having online registration
- Using printed promotional material sparingly—using mostly small postcard-sized printed materials printed on paper with 100% postconsumer waste content
- Buying local and organic (everything from food to flowers!)
- Minimizing the need for disposable food packaging, utensils and plates
- Decorating with natural materials
- Providing a two-sided, one-sheet schedule for participants upon arrival and having 3-ring binders with area information at the registration table (instead of giving packets full of printed material to each person)
As a festival participant, what can you do?
- Bring a reusable water bottle
- Stay within walking or biking distance to the festival (see our housing information). Minneapolis is a beautiful, compact city for walking!
- Take public transportation or carpool (see our transportation information)
- Use the correct receptacle (recycling, compost, or trash) for your waste
- Bring your own hand towel for clean-up or bathroom use (instead of using paper towels)
- Buy a carbon off-set for your travels (some companies to consider: Climate Friendly, My Climate, Atmosfair, and Native Energy)
When the last note of the last tanda is played, we want to leave behind not carbon footprints—but tango footprints.
